Two Smiles for a Child (Two Smiles) was founded 1982 in the State of Virginia and was incorporated in Pennsylvania, 2011. In 1982, Patricia Williams Diaw visited her mother, (the late retired beautician Rosa Williams) at Patricia's childhood home located at 534 Dunlop Street. While there, the once segregated City of Petersburg sponsored a community event commemorating Halifax Street, the infamous Negro downtown area. Venders were on hand to attract black business, and a stage was set up for entertainment. Patricia placed a sign on a table saying "Two Smiles for a Child,? handed out educational information, and staged a double dutch jump rope contest for the children, earning a letter of appreciation on the city's official stationery. Soon after, with the purchase of a post office box, and a visit to the local office of the city clerk to register the name Two Smiles for a Child, a lifetime commitment was made to designing and developing innovative educational products and services.
For more than thirty years, through educational consulting, professional storytelling, community organizing, lecturing, presenting workshops, authoring books/articles, and publishing, Two Smiles has serviced thousands of adults and youth (in Delaware County, Pennsylvania; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Wilmington, Delaware; Hudson Country, Jersey City; (Harlem) New York City, New York; Petersburg, Virginia; Sacramento, California; Gainesville, Florida; the Caribbean Islands, South America, and Africa).
